VINTAGE PICTURE POSTCARDS
SHOWING THE RUINS OF ANI

There exist a large number of different postcards of Ani that were produced during the Russian period.
All the postcards shown on this page were issued by the "Museum of Antiquities of Ani" between around 1910 to around 1915. There were three series of Ani postcards produced: the last series was mostly of sites outside Ani, including Khtzkonk and Bagnayr.
Interestingly, some of the views shown are not contemporary with the postcards. For example, the Ani mosque is shown as it was in 1903, before its conversion into a museum, and the "merchant's palace" is shown as it was in 1880, when more of the decorative stone inlays survived around the doorway.

The postcards below are from the third series of cards. The top two cards show Khtzkonk monastery, the others show Bagnayr monastery and the two churches at Agarak village.
